Introduction: My Little World

Hey y'all! My name is Emily Leib and I am a senior at the University of Oklahoma. I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. (Yes actual Dallas, not just a suburb around it) I am studying Health and Exercise science and am considering Physical Therapy schools or grad schools. I have always been fascinated with the human body and helping people to heal. Additionally, I have also grown an interest in Nutrition, which is something I am also thinking about continuing my education studying. Still trying to figure out exactly what I want to do, but I'll get there.

My family is an important part of my life. I am the youngest of four siblings, so not seeing them every day is very hard. I have a sister named Anna (23) and two brothers named Kevin (23) and Bryan (26). They are all living in Texas right now so I like to go home to visit with them. Additionally I have two wonderful parents named Ginger and Bruce. My mom is a Nurse and my dad is the President of Texas Bank in Dallas. We go to Destin, Florida together ever summer and spend our holidays together.

There are two more members of my family that I absolutely adore. I have two dogs, Bella and Mia! I am a huge dog person, so any chance I have to spend with them I take. We got Bella, who is full Border Collie off of craigslist in 2013 in Dallas before I graduated high school. She love soccer, long walks, and treats. My other dog, I found on craigslist this past October in Edmond, Oklahoma. I technically got the dog for my brother, but my family is obsessed with her so they've been watching her. She is half Australian Shepard/ half Border Collie. She does just about everything Bella does.

My other hobbies besides school include playing soccer, swimming (I am a certified lifeguard and swim instructor), hanging out with friends, watching movies and eating. It may sound funny that I mention eating as a hobby, but I absolutely love going to new places and trying different things! My favorite food is Mexican (...TexMex), but I also enjoy other things like sushi and American food.

  1. Hi Emily! It was great reading about you and the things about you! I am also a Health and Exercise Science major and I am in the same boat as you with trying to figure out what I am going to do after.. It is very stressful but I have faith it will all work out!
It looks like you have a pretty large family! What is that like? I have always wished I had a big family. Your dogs are seriously the cutest things ever! I have a little Australian Shepard as well! Aren't they the best? I also have 5 dogs back home so I am a huge dog lover as well! They just don't get much better.
    It was great meeting you!

  2. Hey Emily! I am a junior and I am trying to figure out what I want to do with my life. There is just so much out there that it just makes things overwhelming sometimes. Your dogs are just so adorable! I love dogs as well but I haven't had the chance to get one so far but hopefully one day I can.

  3. I am from Texas too, Emily, and my dad lives in Austin, so it is always so fun to go see him! And your dogs are such cuties: maybe you can make them characters in some stories you write this semester!

Nutrition: the theme of FOOD is a powerful one in mythology and folklore, so that might be something fun to explore. If you start looking, you will see foods in lots of stories... and you could even do a project for this class that is a combination of cooking and storytelling. I think cooking is actually great metaphor for writing, since they are creative in very similar ways... but with writing, there's no messy clean-up afterwards, ha ha. Anyway, you can ponder that and see what you think: especially if there are some foods you obsess about, you might see if they have some folklore and legends attached to them. Some foods are very folkloric! :-)

  4. Holy crap your dogs are adorable! I just had to get that out of the way first because I absolutely love dogs too. My family has had dogs my entire life. My parents' "trial kid" (the dog they got before having any kids) was a Norwegian elkhound and we've also had two corgis. Food is also a major thing for me. I love trying new foods, especially in new places, because so much history is told by the traditional meals of any given place.

  5. Emily,
That is awesome that you are a huge family person. I have two older sisters and one young sister so I know what it’s like to have a big family. Both of your dogs are extremely cute. I actually debated on getting a Border Collie but ended up with a Golden Retriever. I also enjoy some good TexMex. I am originally from near San Antonio so there are always great hole-in-the-wall’s that have amazing food! Anyways, it was nice to meet you. Good luck this semester!

  6. Food I one of my hobbies too! I love going to local restaurants and cooking at home. Recently I've made baklava and a zoodles(Zucchini noodles) dish with a kale pesto and slivered almonds. I too have two dogs, Emily a lab-pit mix and Bugster a apple head chihuahua. Once I finish school I plan to get an Aussi mix because you can never have too many dogs.

  7. Your dogs are so precious! My last dog was a pyrenees/border collie and she was the most chill dog I think I've ever come in contact with. I am also a health and exercise science major looking into PT schools! There seems to be a lot of us in this class. I can't imagine being in another state from my family, though Dallas isn't that bad of a drive. My family just lives two hours away, and sometimes that seems like forever.

  8. Your family is wonderful! I'm also the youngest of four, too! Going to Florida sounds super fun, too. I'd love to go sometime :). It's good that you have so many interests for school and I hope you figure out what you would like to do soon! Your dogs are so cute!! I've always loved border collies but I've never actually met one.

  10. Hi Emily!
It was nice reading about your major and for you to introduce us to your family like that! You seem like a very blessed person!
I have a lot of respect for you with that major – I know friends that are in it and I see how hard they work.
Florida is my absolute favorite place on earth so I totally understand that!!
Looking forward to the rest of the semester.

  11. Hey Emily! I actually laughed out loud at you Dallas comment, I know so many people from the suburbs of Dallas! I myself am from a suburb of Houston, I know how annoyed the true "Houstonians" get when I say I'm from Houston! I miss TexMex so bad and my parents moved to Colorado so I haven't been able to have it in ages!:(

  12. Hi Emily! It was great to read your introduction and learn more about you. I loved the pictures of you and your family over the holidays. It must be really cool to be so close in age to your siblings. You must be really close! Bella and Mia are so adorable! I'm not usually a dog person (I love cats) but your dogs are really cute. It's really cool that you are a certified lifeguard and swim instructor. I used to be a lifeguard and I really wish I had re-certified. Don't worry; I would definitely consider eating a hobby! Lol

  13. Emily! It sounds like we've got quite a bit in common! I also have 3 other siblings, though I'm the younger middle, so not quite the youngest. I also have two brothers (both older) and one sister (the younger)! I also loooooove dogs. I have a pit bull myself and I'm obsessed with him, he's my best friend for sure. It sounds like you've got some good options with your future-I'm sure you'll get it all figured out here before too long! (Also-my family does matching Christmas pajamas every year haha)

  14. Hi! Ha I love the matching Christmas pjs! Your dogs are so cute!! I have a collie named Jake that I am obsessed with. I am Pre-PT so I'm definitely partial to that career path (: but I'm sure whatever you choose will be great. The world could always use more people in the health field who actually care about helping people! Also yes, queso is life.

  15. Hey Emily! I was just telling Savannah that I have a cousin who is a PT from KS and I just so happen to work with him, but in a different department. LOL! It's definitely an awesome career path and I can agree with pursuing more in Nutrition as well! I've thought about it, along with Occupational Therapy, but who knows, it's a struggle figuring out what we want to do when there's so many options out there!
I agree that family is important! I don't know what I would do without mine, because they're all I hang out with! I too have a pup that I'm obsessed with! I love dogs so much that I'm thinking of getting another one, even though I can't afford it quite yet, but one day soon.
Food is essential, so it must be a hobby! I love trying new places as well, can't get enough of food, there are always new places popping up left and right!

  16. Hey Emily, it's nice to meet you. Your dogs are the cutest! I have a lot of friends who are Health & Exercise Science majors and I considered that major myself for a while. Physical therapy is a great career to get into. With time and patience, you'll figure out what you want to do, no doubt. Haha I like how you mention food as one of your hobbies! I have to agree with you though, trying new places and new foods is always an adventure. Good luck!

  17. Hey Emily! It's nice to see a perspective your perspective on nutrition and the human body. I have a similar feeling since I've been working out for quite a while I learned how unique the body is and how you can never learn enough about your body and how it reacts to different food, meals, workouts etc! Your dogs are very cute! I have a puppy as well and I am very eager to get another companion but I don't think I'll do that until I graduate! And I understand you on the food part, I love trying different cuisines and gourmet dishes and also I workout to eat haha! Goodluck on either physical therapy or grad school!

  18. Hey Emily! I am a family person as well, but I am the oldest of four! My siblings live in Edmond which is about 30/40 minutes away from Norman, so I do not know how you do it with your siblings living in Texas. I took a Nutrition class my second semester as a Freshman, and I still recall a lot of helpful and interesting information that I still use today.

  19. Hi, Emily!
Seems like almost half this class is filled with seniors. Bella and Mia are very adorable. I have heard of people having really bad experiences when purchasing dogs from craigslist, so I’m surprised to hear you finding these two gems. On another note, I am a big fan of TexMex as well! Good luck on your future endeavors.

  20. Hey Emily!
It is so cool that you are so passionate about health and helping people heal and return to their full potential! You seem so kind!
Your dogs look so sweet! I am jealous! I love Australian Shepard mixes!
Your family seems to be so close and supportive, which is awesome! Good luck with looking for grad school or any other options you are considering!

  21. It's nice to meet you Emily. Your dogs are adorable and so is your family! I love the sibling photo of you all in matching pjs! I need to make mine do that with me. It would be a little harder for me though, because I'm the youngest of 11 (I have 6 brothers and 4 sisters)/ 8 living. Good luck as you figure out what your plans for the future are going to be.

  22. Emily-I love your dogs. They are adorable and I'm such a dog person so I loved looking at all the pictures of them hah! I love that your family is so important to you; family is a huge part of my life too and my family also does matching christmas family pajamas every year. I think it's a fun tradition and I love it. I think that physical therapy sounds like a great option for you and it sounds like you've got it all figured out!

  23. Hello, Emily. I do enjoy sampling new foods as well, especially when I'm on family vacations. But I think my one true love in the food world is seafood, especially lobster and calamari.

It's also so strange... I also live in a family of six with two sisters and one brother, and Destin, Florida is also one of our favored vacation spots! Maybe I've seen or will see you around there over the summer season! XD

  24. Hi Emily,
It's nice to meet you! I like that you are from dallas, and not the surrounding suburbs! Very authentic dallas person then! I'm looking in the dallas market right now for jobs. I love the vibe of the city. I love that you have two dogs, but especially love that one of them is named Mia, which is my name! I'm sure I would love your dog! Both of them!

  25. Hey Emily,
First of all, Bella and Mia are absolutely adorable! I'm such a dog person as well, and love spending time with my dogs any free time I have. It's cool that you are from Dallas, as I'm from so close to there! I lived in Allen for a while, but basically grew up in the Anna area (just north of Mckinney).
Good luck the rest of the semester and in the future!

  26. Hello Emily!! First things first, your dogs are a couple good looking pups and I am certainly jealous of them. I have four dogs back at home that I miss constantly, but they have not been allowed to visit OU unlike yours, so I am quite envious of you in that regard. Tex-Mex, wow where to begin, it is certainly one of my favorite foods. One of my roommates and I make a point to try new Tex-Mex places whenever possible like yourself.

  27. Hi Emily! I am so jealous of your dogs. I want one in my apartment so bad, but I know I would not be able to take care of it as needed. Just a few more weeks and you will be graduating -- how exciting! I actually am considering moving to Dallas upon graduation; it is a place I have always enjoyed visiting. Though, I might end up in some suburb. Anyways, good luck with finals! Hopefully they are not too brutal.

  28. Hi Emily! Your pictures are adorable! Haha. I think nutrition is such an interesting field. I love eating, as well. No matter the time of day, I’m always down to eat. What’s your favorite TexMex place? I think family is super important, and I can tell you are very close to yours. Good luck with the rest of your semester.

  29. Hi Emily! It's nice to meet you! I think it so awesome that you are so close with your family. I am also the youngest of four, bit my siblings are quite a bit older than me (the oldest is 14 years older than me), but I am super close with them as you are with your family. Both of your dogs are so so pretty!! I also really like Tex-Mex and food in general. I completely understand eating as a hobby! Good luck with the rest of the semester!
